His greatest geological discovery, actually published in Science many years ago, was glacial striations on Grandfather Mountain NC, way south of any previously known glaciation in Eastern North America.
Unfortunately, it was soon found that the striations didn’t line up with the direction ice would flow but instead were radial to the site of masts to which logs were dragged by steel chains during lumbering operations.
