What would have been the right’s response had Bill Clinton gone to Pat Robertson and said the reason for his actions was all the work he put in running the country?

Closer to home: how would my wife (or my employer) react if she (its administrators) found out I’d been banging some of my students (I’m not, never have) and, when confronted, I said “I just love teaching so much that I got carried away and it just happened.”

I can assure you bad things would happen to me in the second case, and I’m pretty sure the right wouldn’t buy Clinton’s excuse in the first. So, because they are always consistent, I’m sure Newt’s excuse will be met with similar disbelief and scorn.
