No wonder I'm such a sucker for art deco ...

When I was 11 or 12 years old, I was determined that I was going to be an Egyptologist one day. I read Carter's account of opening the tomb so many times that I had it memorized, and could list off any number of facts and factoids.

Thanx for a little bit of nostalgia. I think I'll have to go off and find my old copy of Anne Rice's "The Mummy" for a re-reading.

so in Las Vegas do you get a faux curse after a trip to see the faked artifacts?..OMG the ad on the right side of the screen is selling mummy bags!!
but really i can't think of a archaeological discovery that has had as much impact on fashion and design as the whole Tut mania.

I saw the Tutenkhamun exhibition in the British Museum and had to join the queues. I was behind a couple of little old English ladies (no that is neither age-ist nor sexist, just plain old ethnography). The BM had carefully lined the area through which we shuffled with showcases of their most spectacular assets (though not the Rosetta Stone). So there were the Miildenhall treasure and several iron age gold torcs from southern England. The intention, presumably, was to show what good stuff there was in the BM and from Britain. Unfortunately the loEls missed the point and decided that the Egyptians had made "such wonderful stuff". Ah well.
I have always wanted one of the t-shirts they were supposed to have made for the New York exhibition with the two pictures of the "mask" (I'm sure it has a better name) and the caption: "Keep you hands of my Tuts".
