I made an attempt to read Mr Bananaman Comfort's introduction. It was turgid nonsense, once he had finished detailing Darwin's biography. That is about 40 minutes of my life I will never get back.

I tried to find it again, but he seems to have taken it down.

If the book is free, take it - but tear out Ray's introduction, and use it as Dog intended; as toilet paper.

Short story: If the book is free, take it - but tear out Ray's introduction and keep in mind that the book is still missing some bits and you really should buy a First Edition copy if you have the money.
Many people prefer the 1st edition over subsequent ones; maybe because there just wasn't much new science in the later editions and the god-appeasing language (or the stultifying of scientific statements from the first edition) was far more annoying in the later editions.
