Although I find it quite impossible these days to distinguish “lies” from “untruths believed heartily though wrongly”.

We should care about the difference. The first knows the truth, but refuses to say so. The second has been indoctrinated by the former.

Either way, it’s not someone I want having 1/100th power to decide important legislation.
