That’s the way it is here in Germany, too. I don’t believe anyone would even think to ask if Angie is religious or not, because everyone* here understands that religion has nothing to do with how you run a country.

Yeah, the situation here in Germany is weird. A politician doesn’t need to be religious – at least nobody asks – but they do have to pander to religion or at least adopt an accomodationist stance.

Well, I am not sure whether they have to be all careful about religion to garner sympathy, but they definitely are.
