Flying cranes are very neat. I saw some on Manitoulin Island. when landed, they look like dustmops on legs. The part that looks like a draggy tail (or the business end of the dustmop) is actually the ends of their long wings.

If you ever get a chance, visit the crane refuge in Bariboo, Wisconsin. It's near the Dells(?) resort area. The people at the crane refuge have been the first to get some species to breed by finding out what makes them comfortable. Much of the refuge is private for cranes, but there's an area where you can see all kinds--even whooping cranes, which are their speciality.

The chickeny things: grouse?

We saw a great blue heron in flight today, from the highway.
