One of the groups using the conference room was an organization of secondary school teachers and administrators. At one point, the topic of declining grammatical knowledge and spelling ability came up and several of the participants protested that it didn’t matter because the internet was teaching kids the way people talk and write nowadays, so there was no discussion about what to do to improve the situation. A minor thing, but still telling about Texas.
