They saved x millions by not providing other magazines. The American magazine has to make enough ad revenue to cover all its costs, including cost of flying it, or it will get discontinued. They reduced the amount of water available to flush the toilets (maybe from 90 gallons down to 50?) and saved x million dollars. A big cost was overfueling. Fuel suppliers would put in a bit more fuel than called for. Toting this excess around cost xx millions. I am somewhat of an incrementalist, so I found it fascinating reading.
