I&#039;m not surprised at all. That&#039;s just island hopping.

During the same time frame (ca. -500 to 500) the Lapita culture (Polynesians) spread from their original home ground in Fiji-Tonga-Samoa to all Pacific islands except New Zealand. Their ancestors had sailed from South-East Asia. The technology to navigate the high seas was certainly available.
