Disclaimer: You’ve gotta be nuts to do this. Or, have a keyboard that you are about to throw out anyway.
Last Monday, I spilled beer on my keyboard and received the Dishwasher advice from two very tech-savvy people.
Today, I can report that not only will the keyboard come out clean, but it will probably work once it dries completely. Every key on the keyboard works and feels just right - the Caps Lock light even works! This ‘hack’ is not for the weakhearted, and I would probably avoid putting a $100+ keyboard in the dishwasher. But if you don’t have any other options, it’s a pretty good bet.

OK, now that I’ve got your attention, does anyone know where to get an Avant Stellar keyboard? Mine works fine, but I fear the day it goes belly up. If necessary, I’ll put it in the dishwasher, of course. (Mine has function keys along both the top AND left side, by the way…)

Hmm…do you think it will work with a laptop keyboard?
Ian, I spilt orange juice on my Dell inpiron and knocked out the arrow keys. For along time I debated just using a plug in keyboard. Eventually I went on the internet to see about a replacement. Surprise - the new keyboard was only $12.
The dishwasher idea is something some of the guys on my computer geek forum use. they just pop the keys on and stick it in (NO dishwashing soap though). I think Ill be getting one of those roll-up keyboards that are watertight next though. then I can rinse it right under the tap.
Oops..I mean, they pop the keys OFF and then stick it in the dishwasher.
