Florida Republican Ric Keller has introduced a bill (HR 1689) called the “Curb Illegal Downloading on College Campuses Act of 2007″ that would ammend the Higher Education Act to allow that money to be used to reduce illegal downloading of copyrighted content.

This is a little like using Defense Department money (the Defense Department plays with guns) to curb illegal firearms ownership. In other words, it’s a little stupid. And cynical.

This bill is not expected to live long, but that is mainly because the Congress is not Republican. Let’s try to keep it that way.
