The Rats are Leaving the Ship. What lifeboat are the heading for?

Yet another Republican in the US Congress is leaving. Bob Goodlatte, of the Virginia 6th, and chair of the House Agriculture COmmittee, will retire in December 2018. His seat will be up for grabs. Here is what he says about it, as reported in WaPo:

“After much contemplation and prayer,” the 13-term congressman said in a statement that he and his wife decided the time was right for him to step aside.

“With my time as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee ending in December 2018,” he said, “this is a natural stepping-off point and an opportunity to begin a new chapter of my career and spend more time with my family, particularly my granddaughters.”

Because of rules imposed by the GOP he would have to leave the committee anyway, so that may be a factor. Earlier in the year, he announced plans to destroy the Office of Congressional Ethics so maybe he took too much heat from that.

But I think there is another reason he and other republican leaders are leaving now. Two closely related reasons, actually, shown in these two graphs:

I take it, from his statement, that his first board of directors appointment will be with a company called “MyGranddaughters Inc”

  1. He is right to go after the Ethics Office. Dems are deliberately holding up the Nunes investigation to keep him from investigating the intelligence agencies’ targeting of Trump.

    1. Nunes has already proven himself a Russian agent. And Trump is a Russian agent. So, I suppose the Democrats should stand down and let Nunes do what he want to do.

    2. They should conduct the Ethics Committee investigation rather than block it. If Nunes is guilty, they should find him guilty.

  2. Whether you are pro or con this guy, 26 years in
CONgress makes this fellow an operative rather
    than a representative.

If you have held office more than twelve years
you have been around too long.

On the other hand, this could be a condition
