Atlantic Hurricane Names: 2016

Spread the love

With Hurricane Season starting in a few days, I thought I’d post a list of the names that will be used this year.

Alex
Bonnie
Colin
Danielle
Earl
Fiona
Gaston
Hermine
Ian
Julia
Karl
Lisa
Matthew
Nicole
Otto
Paula
Richard
Shary
Tobias
Virginie
Walter

Alex, of course, was already used as a name, since a hurricane formed after they had put the books away during the 2015 season. (See this.)

Also, even though Hurricane Season starts on June 1st, there is a storm brewing in the Atlantic now, that could be Bonnie. But not in a good way.

Have you read the breakthrough novel of the year? When you are done with that, try:

  1. Hurricane Richard will be nicknamed “RickA”, after it achieves “Category 6” (in its opinion) and makes landfall, selectively wiping out institutions of science and leaving places of higher learning in a shambles.

Just prior to landfall, meteorologists will say, “Well, we don’t know if it will make landfall, so it’s best not to do anything. We’ll eventually know, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

  2. “Virginie” is a name?

Just prior to landfall, meteorologists will say, “Well, we don’t know if it will make landfall, so it’s best not to do anything. We’ll eventually know, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

Could easily add: “Besides, it won’t hurt us – we’ll just move inland a little bit and enjoy the new beachfront property.”
