John Kerry in Peru on Climate Change

It is nice to know that the 97% consensus on climate change science is assumed to be a real thing by the leaders. This is John Kerry talking about climate change, in Peru.

He notes that scientists were telling us that climate change is real and already happening in 1988, and he notes that in Rio 1992, the UN Secretary General delcared that he was persuaded that we are on the road to tragedy. He mentioned the superstorm happening now on the West coast and says, “It’s become common place now to hear of record breaking weather events.”

  1. When it comes to the Lima climate talks the results have again been horribly underwhelming. I hope this article is wrong but it makes worrying reading :

It doesn’t take rocket scientists to realise we have a problem – but it doesn’t hurt to look at what they say either :

    http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2010-warmest-year.html

WASHINGTON — Global surface temperatures in 2010 tied 2005 as the warmest on record, according to an analysis released Wednesday by researchers at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York.

The two years differed by less than 0.018 degrees Fahrenheit. The difference is smaller than the uncertainty in comparing the temperatures of recent years, putting them into a statistical tie. In the new analysis, the next warmest years are 1998, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2009, which are statistically tied for third warmest year. The GISS records begin in 1880.

With this year set to break or equal those two other hottest years and thats clearly no co-incidence.

Plus when even recent la Nina “cold cycle” years have been record breakingly hot (at least for them) and the Arctic sea ice, the proverbial metaphorical “canary in the coal mine” has been doing this :

Then really, seriously how stupid does someone have to be to deny the climatic reality? Or to ignore it and look at only the short term condemning so many to so much suffering and hell into the longer term (and even medium term and , crikey, right now) future?

“I like ice also as an indicator of climate change for its political neutrality. Ice asks no questions, presents no arguments, reads no newspapers, listens to no debates. It is not burdened by ideology and carries no political baggage as it crosses the threshold from solid to liquid. It just melts.”
