Strangest AGW Denialist Story So Far This Year?

In 2008, John O’Sullivan wrote a novel called “Vanilla Girl,” which is actually a big giant blog post on blogger.com, about “A teacher’s struggle to control his erotic obsession with a schoolgirl.”

Blogger "About" Page of John O'Sullivan, "Vanilla Girl" author and climate change denialist. O'Sullivan was acquitted of sex related charges with exculpatory testimony supplied by his 17 year old step-daughter.

A few years earlier, it appears, the same John O’Sullivan, who was a teacher, was cleared of charges that he had sent 36 “sex txts” to a 16 year old girl within a three week period, some soliciting sex for money, using an Internet account under the name “Sexy Hunk.”

The British Court dropped the charges as well as another charge of assaulting the girl in a park, after O’Sullivan’s step daughter, 17 testified that she was the one sent the messages to her step father. The judge apparently claimed that he did not find the exculpatory testimony convincing. Following the proceedings…

…Mr O’Sullivan, of Beccles, Suffolk, stood with wife Barbara and said he may sue for malicious prosecution.

He said: “I have been without pay for a year, living on the charity of my family. It has been financially and emotionally devastating and I think it is fair that someone should compensate me.”

In March, 2011, climate change denialist Tim Ball accused Penn State Scientist Michael Mann of scientific misconduct, suggesting that he should be in the “State Pen” rather than at “Penn State.” This accusation led to Mann initiating a law suit against Ball. This is when “Vanilla Girl” teacher John O’Sullivan joined Tim Ball to offer legal and fund-raising help. In July, O’Sullivan joined the chorus of those making the absurd and offensive comparison between the respected scientists Michael Mann and the discredited pedophilic football coach Jerry Sandusky.

Snap.

The situation is even stranger than thus far described. O’Sullivan, it appears, has represented himself as being something he is not (a lawyer working for a particular firm, if I understand correctly). Since I don’t understand the crazy Canadian legal system that well, I won’t try to explain that. Let’s just say that there was an investigation of some kind.

All of the above is documented and described, with links, in a post by BigCityLib, here. It is a complicated story, so I’ve only given the outline here. Go to BigCityLib to get the details.

  1. So wait..If I understood that correctly, a guy with multiple accusations of sex offense is comparing Michael Mann to a sex offender and wrote about a man’s burning desire for underaged girls…. You’d think someone with that past would…kind of avoid associating themselves with the whole concept of sex abuse.

  2. There is a Biblical quote that is appropriate:

    Proverbs 26:11

As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool returns to his folly.

  3. Hi Greg,

Not a bad summary but you haven’t quite presented the correct picture and there is much much more behind this “Strangest AGW Denialist Story So Far This Year”.

According to my records John O’Sullivan and Tim Ball were associates before 11th March 2011, exchanging E-mails since the middle of 2010. That’s when John was collecting together his team of “Dragon Slayers” in preparation for releasing their book “Slaying the Sky Dragon”, which in my humble opinion is simply a hodge-podge of blog articles hurriedly thrown together behind a colourful cover. I’m not a scientist (neither are all of the PSI founding members) but am sceptical of the Catatrophic Anthropogenic Climate Change (CACC) hypothesis after giving careful consideration to the arguments since March 2007. Althogh I’m a sceptic I have to agree with CACC supporters and many other sceptics that “Slaying the Sky Dragon” has little if any scientific merit.

The E-mail exchanges that took place during Dec. 2010/Jan 2011 indicate that John’s big plan was to form an international publishing company Principia Scientific International (PSI) with thousands of subscribing members. PSI would have an executive with Tim Ball as Chairman, John O’S as CEO, Johannes (Hans) Cornelis Schreuder as CFO, Rev. Philip Foster as Complaince Offier and the rest of the executive chosen from the other co-authors.

John’s teaching career (in art?), which extended over a period of about 18 years but seems to have been somewhat intermittent, appeared to come to a rather abrupt end in 2003 when those charges were brought by his step-daughter’s one-time friend Rebecca. Since then he tried a variety of other means of earning a living before his PSI venture.

It’s a long, complicated but fascinating story with many unexpected tsists and turns. Anyone interested can find out more at GlobalPoliticalShenanigans (http://globalpoliticalshenanigans.blogspot.co.uk/) in articles and postings made since May.

    Enjoy the read.
