‘Stand Your Ground’ boycotts having an effect?

From NPR:

Two of America’s best-known companies, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, have dropped their memberships in the American Legislative Exchange Council, a low-profile conservative organization behind the national proliferation of “stand your ground” gun laws.

ALEC promotes business-friendly legislation in state capitols and drafts model bills for state legislatures to adopt. They range from little-noticed pro-business bills to more controversial measures, including voter-identification laws and stand your ground laws based on the Florida statute. About two-dozen states now have such laws.

  1. Boy I hate having to Boycott Coke & Pepsi, since I drink at least 1 if not 2 a day, but you have to stand your ground in show of non-support. Thanks Greg, I will pass this on to my church and friends. I can’t say how long I can make it without a diet coke….probably just a few days. Ugh.

  2. You don’t have to boycott them, they pulled out of supporting it making them good marginally laudable less evil not specifically evil in this exact way

I’m not entirely sure, but I think dan-o at #2 is indicating support for Stand Your Ground laws and organizations such as the American Legislative Exchange Council.

    Still learning,

    1. Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I am an advocate for the Stand Your Ground laws and organizations such as the American Legislative Exchange Council. I am just not sure if I can hold out more than a couple days without my diet coke. πŸ™

  4. Don’t worry, dan-o, I’ll buy a few extras to make up for your boycott, just because they’re dropping out of ALEC.

  5. I haven’t had a coke/pepsi in YEARS, but in Dan’s honor, I will begin to drink them again. Wal Mart, on the other hand, gets a continuing boycott!

  6. Yeah, I agree with Dan-O. Without these laws how are we supposed to protect our streets from the fucking darkies? We couldn’t actively hunt them down AT ALL!

    dan-o, you’re an animal.

    1. I was shopping at Walmart tonight. Did I help my side without even knowing? I guess God must really be watching over me. Sorry it just was the right spot for that one.

  7. I never understood the American obsession with Oreos, European cookies/biscuits (not those biscuits) are far superior (seriously, have a chocolate Hobnob and then tell me you prefer Oreos, I dare you).

As an aside, can anyone explain to me why an organisation that promotes “business friendly” legislation would support anything to do with firearms (either for or against)?

I’d have thought firearm control was a social matter, surely?

  8. A drop in the bucket of their membership, but a good start none-the-less.

I see what you did there…

    1. I broke down & bought 3 cases of diet coke (they were on sale & I am out at the office) at Walmart but at least this was not on my Christian blog. πŸ™

  9. Dan-o, is your only reason on this board to troll and scout the enemy?

Unless you’re independently wealthy and could not careless about the average American citizen, ALEC substantively makes your life worse. And that’s over the short term only. In the long term, ALEC policies hasten the death spiral of the US economy.
