  1. @1. I have no idea who his advertisers are because I make it a point to not listen to him.

Deprive him of ears. That’s the more-effective approach.

I know a LOT of people who listen to him because they want to disagree with him. Which makes it important that he be as controversial as possible.

His ratings probably went up 2 points as a result of this. Which is exactly what he wants.

What I’m saying now is important because it is literally true: if you stop listening to him, eventually he’ll go away. Because he won’t be effective. Either at delivering a right-wing message to the masses or at being the vector for delivering commercial messages.

It’s all about the ratings. Ratings go up — advertisers happy. Ratings go down — advertisers mad.

  2. This seems like a good place to point out that his statements about her may well be actionable as libel (the initial accusation of “slut” and “prostitute”) and sexual harassment (the unsolicited request for pornographic materials involving her).

  3. Meh. I’ve started and restarted this comment too many times now.

It sucks that Limbaugh is a dick and is successful because he’s a dick. It’s the price you pay for the society you’ve got. It’s a shame more people don’t turn their backs on him but when the only really important thing in a culture is money why would they?

So some people are outraged that he’s being an misogynist asshole? He’s winning by being an misogynist asshole and the outrage is actually helping him. The assholes are winning because they cheat.

Where will this go? Nowhere. Tomorrow it’s blown over and he finds something else to be a complete asshole about and it all happens again and he makes more money.

Kevin is right. The only real way to fight morons like Limbaugh is to ignore them. Any reaction at all is what they want and need.

    So meh. Just meh.

  4. So far, ‘Sleep Train,’ ‘Quicken Loans,’ and ‘Sleep Number’ have pulled their advertising.

  5. I mean where does it stop? When I was in college I paid for my own beer and I paid for my own rubbers. I also paid for my own soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and contact lens cleaning solution. (Oh yea, I also paid for my own tuition.) The first two items, beer and rubbers, I considered necessary in my pursuit of extracurricular activities as opposed to being essential to my good health. As to the other items for which I also paid, these are arguably more health related than are Ms. Fluke’s contraception pills or devices yet I willingly and rightfully so paid for these items as well.

  6. The only thing that surprises me is that anyone is shocked by what comes out of the mouth of that grossly overinflated shitbag. Everybody knows he just says what the GOP is thinking.

  7. As Crommunist said about advertisers pulling on Twitter, “What took you THIS LONG?”

I suppose it took a bunch of women (and friends of women) saying we have had enough. This fantastically poised and articulate college student should not be so hatefully and erroneously represented. Furthermore, the blatant misogyny Rush displayed to the world has made it clear that any sponsor is perpetuating hatred of women. We women buy stuff. We won’t buy stuff from you if you continue to fund misogyny.

So whether or not it took what feels like a century for ad execs (or just the average consumer) to wise up, I am glad they finally did. Maybe he will continue to drive his own relative utility down to the point that he is worthless to advertisers and radio stations alike.

    I can hope can’t I?

  8. TO:
Jason, Mr. Kosta, Kevin, Azkyroth, onefuriousllama, Rixaeton, Katrina, F, and whomever else holds this unimaginable amount of inane stupidity in what you are supposed to possess as a brain,

You people are the prime example of what is wrong with humanity and why our great country is going down the drain. I would suggest that you just SHUT THE HELL UP! I know, anonymity gives you license because you are afraid to reveal your true identity. I would too if I were so stupid.

I can only surmise that you are making your case of why I should now pay for your “stupid pills.” Is that it? If Sandra F(l)uck is so stupid that she can’t find her own way to pay less than $1,000.00+ per year on contraceptives, she must be “working” her way through Georgetown law school by bedding every professor, department head, and their assistants, plus every other administrator within the ranks of University’s employees, including maintenance workers and janitors. She certainly doesn’t have the wherewithal to be a lawyer. Oh, wait a minute, given the state and intelligence of lawyers these days, maybe she will.

I know one thing, she has some unmitigated gall to make such a statement to Congress, on television. Whew, if I hadn’t seen and heard her, I wouldn’t believe it if someone just told me. And you people, the ones addressed above and others of your ilk, you look pretty stupid given the simple fact you can’t make anything more than an inane “one liners” as a comment. I would suggest you drop to your knees and pray to God for help, because you definitely demonstrate that you need it, in more ways than one.

Why don’t you step out from behind the cloak of anonymity and put your name on you so intelligent remarks? I dare you.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Dean

  9. OK, moderator, are you going to censor me? My guess is you are only allowing “like minded” stupid liberals to post here, right?

    Tom Dean

PS – WillNyx, my may add your name to the list.

  10. @4 and 6. NO! That’s not right. Ignoring him will not make him go away. Please see Stephanie Zann’s posts about this topic next door, as well as countless other bloggers’ posts on the subject.

Ignoring Susan Kamen did not make her backtrack on her forced gestation stance. Ignoring Egypt’s despot did not make him go away. And ignoring Limbaugh will not make him go away.

Fighting back in ways we have found to be effective will make these people go away. Standing up to misogyny and causing those who use it to be shamed by people they respect will help to make that behavior go away. That takes action by both its targets and by the perpetrators’ peers. That means action by all of us.

  11. “Jason, Mr. Kosta, Kevin, Azkyroth, onefuriousllama, Rixaeton, Katrina, F, and whomever else holds this unimaginable amount of inane stupidity in what you are supposed to possess as a brain”

The projection is strong in this one.

“You people are the prime example of what is wrong with humanity and why our great country is going down the drain.”

Who’s great country? I’m not american, you moron. I don’t give a damn if fuckwads like you turn your country into a theocracy.

“I would suggest that you just SHUT THE HELL UP!”

And who are you to tell me to shut up? Just another pusbag like Rush in the net. How intimidating. See I’m SOOOO scared.

“If Sandra F(l)uck is so stupid that she can’t find her own way to pay less than $1,000.00+ per year on contraceptives, she must be “working” her way through Georgetown law school by bedding every professor, department head, and their assistants, plus every other administrator within the ranks of University’s employees, including maintenance workers and janitors”

And a dumb misogynist to boot. Contraceptive pills are used as a legit medical treatment, unlike the Viagra Rush used to bugger boys in the Dominican Republic. And also, in your twisted worldview apparently a woman cannot progress if she doesn’t do her supervisors. You’ve been watching too much porn, me thinks.

“Whew, if I hadn’t seen and heard her, I wouldn’t believe it if someone just told me. And you people, the ones addressed above and others of your ilk, you look pretty stupid given the simple fact you can’t make anything more than an inane “one liners” as a comment.”

I see a lot of bile, but not a single coherent argument adressing why we or Sandra are wrong. I wonder why.

“I would suggest you drop to your knees and pray to God for help, because you definitely demonstrate that you need it, in more ways than one.”

I ditched my imaginary friends when I was a child. Do you also believe in Santa and the Tooth Fairy?

“Why don’t you step out from behind the cloak of anonymity and put your name on you so intelligent remarks? I dare you.”

    Make me.

  12. Tom,

It is impossible for me to censor you on this blog. I can delete you comments all day and I that would not be censoring you.

Future obnoxious and offensive comments such as yours above will be deleted, of course.

  13. Who listens to Rush Limbaugh (my keyboard feels dirty after typing that name)? Octogenarian retirees concentrated in Florida and scattered throughout the Sunbelt? Some yokels in the South? Militias in the North? Misogynists everywhere?

He has a large audience by talk radio standards, but most Americans aren’t fooled by his drivel (except the above-mentioned and Republicans).

So WHY does the media pay any attention to this ignorant, bigoted buffoon? Oh, yeah…ratings…face palm…

  14. In a statement Friday, Paula Silver, a spokeswoman for Quicken, the nation’s largest online mortgage lender, said: “Due to Rush Limbaugh’s continued inflammatory comments — along with the valuable feedback we have received from our clients and team members — Quicken Loans has suspended all advertising on the Rush Limbaugh radio program.”

  15. Also:

Unlike Quicken, Domino’s does not advertise on Limbaugh’s show. But the pizza chain appeared on a list of the show’s sponsors and was bombarded with e-mails and tweets from people wanting the company to pull its ads.

“We have never advertised on Rush Limbaugh’s show,” said Tim McIntyre, a Domino’s spokesman. “We’re not sure how this false rumor got started. We’ve been playing social media Whac-a-Mole all day.”

He said the company hasn’t advertised on radio for at least six months, and its policy has always been to avoid “intentionally inflammatory” shows.

  16. @ Kevin #4:

Deprive him of ears. That’s the more-effective approach.

I know a LOT of people who listen to him because they want to disagree with him. Which makes it important that he be as controversial as possible.

His ratings probably went up 2 points as a result of this. Which is exactly what he wants.

Correct! I once read an interview with Limpdick in which he said that he exists to piss people off, because that’s how he makes his money, and if he doesn’t have half the U.S. hating what he says, he isn’t succeeding.
Your comment reminds me of the prevailing attitude towards the British National Party (hyper-bigoted opposition dimwits) amongst MPs in the UK Government – they feel that the best way to diminish the BNP’s influence and impact is to sideline them, make no response to their nonsense other than to laugh or belittle their ignorance, and then get on with the business of running the country… and its pretty successful. I reckon people should do that with this waste of oxygen too. Make him irrelevant, ignore his idiocy just like people ignore Kim Kardashian’s views on the economy, and impact his listenership that way. It takes some time, but you can see how it sort of worked against Glenn Beck when he was on Fox – his ratings declined because people and advertisers eventually began to see him as nothing more than an unhinged (but dangerous) moron.

  17. Over the past day, we’ve heard from many great Citrix customers about our advertising on The Rush Limbaugh Show. These customers have expressed their growing concern that some of his recent comments seem inconsistent with the core values Citrix has always stood for – humility, integrity and respect.

While Citrix obviously does not control any show’s content or endorse opinions of their hosts, we do take the concerns of our customers seriously. When they are upset about something, we listen. After careful consideration, we have decided to discontinue our advertising on The Rush Limbaugh Show.

    Sincerely,
    Brett Caine

  18. I see Limburger has sort of said sorry, but not really. He still either does not have a clue what birth control is about and how it works, or he is flat out lying to prolong the outrage. Either way, he’s a circus clown.

  19. Pro flowers is a sponser. I can see it now.

Here honey, I bought you some flowers…..from the people that sponser a hateful mysogynistic pig that thinks you’re a whore.

Come to think of it, Rush has been married four times. How many kids does he have? Zero.

None of his wives would ever use contraception because that would make them sluts and Rush would never marry a slut. Right?

Clearly he’s sterile. He’s shooting blanks and is angry at all women for his own inadequacies.

I don’t mean to making any accusations
It’s just my choice of words are not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a stir. I sincerely apologize to Mr. Limpbaugh for the insulting word choices.*

*and I’m sorry about your little problem

  20. Wow Tom Dean, way to totally judge someone you’ve never met. And how do I know you aren’t yourself hiding behind anonymity? “Tom Dean” is exactly the sort of unimaginative name a troll would pull out.

Do you have any actual information regarding Ms. Fluke’s intelligence, level of scholarship or financial situation? Plus, she was discussing the situation of a friend who needs birth control pills for a reason totally unrelated to sexual activity. Your post doesn’t exactly speak wonders for your own intelligence – calling people stupid while sounding like a bratty 10 year old doesn’t prove their stupidity, but it does make me wonder about yours. You have provided no actual reasons for disparaging the character and intelligence of Ms. Fluke whatsoever.

When I was in college, you got both a ration of free condoms (if you wanted them) and birth control was covered, and I consider that to be totally legitimate. The opinion that being sexually active is a “lifestyle choice” that one has a right to disapprove of should be considered – coming from an employer or anybody – as silly and irrelevant as an employer’s position that I should try to treat my migraines by using “healing crystals” instead of medicine as trusting medicine rather than “holistic methods” is a lifestyle choice.

If you would like to call me ‘stupid’ for supporting Ms. Fluke and not you, I have two PhDs, one in mathematics and the other in computer science, and I’m sure I’m a lot smarter than you Tom Dean.

  21. OK, moderator, are you going to censor me? My guess is you are only allowing “like minded” stupid liberals to post here, right?

Tom Dean (of FoxNews.com???), I find your concern of being censored after just telling a whole bunch of people to “SHUT THE HELL UP” is amusing.

Further to that, umm, the issue is not Govt subsidising of contraceptives, which you seem to think it is, but the requiring of PRIVATE health insurance provided via an employer to include contraceptives (eg: the pill) in their PRIVATE insurance coverage.

As an Australian, I find the US health care systems to be scary, wasteful and quite silly. Particulary since you don’t have what we have (ie: the Public Option). I sincerely hope you recover soon, and feel better once you have calmed down. Maybe take less private insurance covered Viagra?

  22. Douglas Carlton and Tom Dean – it is painfully obvious that neither of you fools has any clue what you are yapping about. Ms. Fluke testified about a lesbian who needed the birth control pills to prevent dangerously large ovarian cysts. She was unable to afford them (because most college students don’t have the funds to spare an extra $100 every month), developed a huge cyst and had to have emergency surgery to remove said ovary. She also mentioned a married student unable to afford the pills.

So, boys, now married women are sluts too? Shameless lil’ hussies who shouldn’t be allowed to finish school cuz they might get pregnant and have to drop out of school? Classy, boyz, real classy.

Look, boyz, get it thru your tiny minds that CONTRACEPTION IS A HEALTH ISSUE FOR WOMEN. In civilized insurance plans, it is covered. Because people have perfectly legitimate reasons to delay pregnancy, space out their preganancies to assure better health for mother and child, and sometimes also to treat conditions that have NOTHING to do with sex (y’know, endometriosis, cysts, anemia, etc).

Pull your heads out of your a$$e$ and learn something.

  23. From ProFlowers today:

PROFLOWERS STATEMENT At ProFlowers, our mission is to delight our customers with fresh and long lasting flowers, and that is our singular focus each and every day. We do not base our advertising decisions to align with any particular political view or opinion as our employees and customers are as diverse as the USA. Mr. Limbaugh’s recent comments went beyond political discourse to a personal attack and do not reflect our values as a company. As such, ProFlowers has suspended advertising on The Rush Limbaugh radio program.

  24. OK smrnda,

You’ll have to speak to my parents about my name. I am certain that your parents named you smrnda!

I am an ARCHITECT which requires a broader scope of knowledge about a more wide variety of realities than any other profession on earth. Yes, math (my second major), structural engineer(ing) – (which I am), science, psychology, sociology, space, environment, climate, weather, building/builder (which, I am), I don’t hand off my designs to inept contractors to screw up, no “contractor” has ever built or been able to build my designs so, I had to do it myself, with a hired/employed crew. And, this employee thing isn’t all it’s cracked up to be; filing tax reports for all your employees plus, paying half the Social Security. And, then there is their insurance, workman’s comp, etc. And, then there is getting out with your employees, after negotiating, developing, and executing the design and all documents and having to instruct, supervise, get down in the ditches, all the while procuring and scheduling all of the materials, etc. and scheduling every aspect and then satisfying the client and then finding another while the current project is underway, and on and on………………………..

Yea, you are smarter than me; you figured out how to just grind up pencils and wad up paper, all the time while having to concentrate on and anticipating whether you could hit the trash can with your paperwork – never having to face a client or employee, or all of the other liabilities involved.

A world without people; is that your world? Well, I’ve never had employer provided “insurance” in which I wasn’t the employer. I bought my own and didn’t ask anyone for anything!

America does not need more government intervention and that is exactly what Ms. Fluke was asking! Her plea(?) was to Congress wanting a “hand out”; we already have enough “hands” out and not nearly enough “hands” working. We even have a group wanting tax cuts for “mustache maintenance”, what do you want to do with them? Fill up their hands too?

Our “BRILLIANT” Founding Fathers would not recognize this country now. They would revolt again. America is the only force standing between man’s freedom and completer WORLD TYRANNY AND DESTRUCTION! That’s where were headed; is that your vision? What is your mathematical formula for that? You can’t use your pencil and paper for that formula; oh, I’m sorry, I forgot you math PhD’s don’t know how to use pencils and paper any longer. So, you’ll have to use your head but, that seems an extremely risky proposition, given your wide world PhD observations, heretofore set forth from your most excellent PhD analysis and attempt to diminish me because I put things in perspective, yes, maybe crude but, true perspective.

I’ll bet you a $1 you have no idea what “UTOPIA” means, do you? Well, no, I know you don’t nor, probably anyone else reading this. For some it’s not necessarily your fault; I’m not talking to everyone here but, most, especially MR PHD SMIRNOFF or whatever his name was that his parents gave him. I know he knows they did because he can “calculate it.”

When you’ve got more “hands out” than you do “hands in” it’s just about over. When such small people cast such long shadows, you know it’s late in the day (era/existence) of FREEDOM, OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICAN.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Dean

PS – PhD boy, you’ll have to ask my parents why they didn’t think of “Smirnoff”! I live in Athens, Alabama if you’d like to call, sir. Just make it late in the day, like when after the sun goes down. When the sun goes down, most of the time I have to call it quits, at least in “the field.” But, you are welcome.

  25. Mr Smirnoff,

I don’t want you to expose your over rated sense of “PhD dum.” The word, the ideas of “Utopia” did not originate with Sir Thomas Moore in his “renowned book”. I originated with the Greeks, meaning – “NO PLACE!” It doesn’t exist, no matter how much too many people want it and strive for it.

Utopia is “NO PLACE!” GET IT?

Again, as not to strain your PhD “series of just jumping the prescribed hurdles,” I’ll help you, with my “pea brain.”

    Utopia
    ***Dreamers & Dissenters
Coined from the Greek “ou-topos” meaning ‘no place’ or ‘nowhere.’

IT DOES NOT AND CANNOT EXIST!!!

    Sincerely,

    Tom Dean
…still in Athens, not Greece thank GOD! But, the way of Greece is where were headed with the likes of you and Ms Fluke and others.

  26. Tom Dean:

An architect so brilliant only his hand-picked contractors can build his designs.

A man who stands alone, not using anything at the public expense. If his air is clean, damn it, it’s because he cleans it himself!

And should you care to dissent, well, then, he’s got a two-fisted after dark solution for you, you pencil-necked wimp!

He is… the internet’s Most Interesting Man In The world.

Just ask him, he’ll tell you all about it.

  27. IT DOES NOT AND CANNOT EXIST!!!

If it does not exist, you must acquit.

Tom, the excessive use of excessive emphasis and self aggrandizement (I’m very most excellent architect, you must obey me now) make you appear unhinged.

Try persuasion from rational argument rather than yelling and making specious claims to authority.

  28. @baal:

Try persuasion from rational argument rather than yelling and making specious claims to authority.

But that has always worked so well in the past for Rush!

  29. You people are perpetual victims ready to support and martyr for any cause that might make you look like heroes. Heroes for what? Free rubbers and estrogen pills? What a joke! How about having some self-control for once in your life? I would tell you all to go screw yourselves but your heads would probably explode trying to figure out how to mooch something else from the government!

  30. Well, Douglas & Thurston, looks like we three spoiled the “Liberal Socialist Entitlement Class Warfare Party”…….

Just let a little truth and candor seep into the mutual admiration, pats on the back society conversation and the whole group takes their toys and go home. I’m really sorry to have been a part of spoiling your lib-fest people. You were all having such a good time.

I suppose (hope) you had to rethink your irrational positions now that the facts are out about Fluke being a setup. Doesn’t it make you proud to know that your so loveable “pres” such an admirable fellow. It appears that he actually does possess “community organizational skills.” That is a real breakthrough for me to see that he is a capable “deception(ist)!”

Well, I must go for now but, I’m having a little trouble with my research in finding an example of anywhere in the world at any time in man’s 6,000 years of existence, where socialism has ever been anything more than an age-old and utter failure every time it has been imposed. Could anyone, yes, just any one of you ‘gimme, gimme’ contributors please, help me and give me just one example where socialism has ever been anything other than a “utopian” pipe dream failure?

Don’t dismay at my temporary departure, I shall be checking in to see if you have been able to help me fill in the hole of my research for an example of a happy story of socialism’s success.

So as to give you something to ponder, until I return, can anyone give me just a couple or even just one reason as to WHY God created Adam (Aramaic meaning man) but, ‘made’ woman, “out” of Adam? And yes, this is truth, no matter whether you are atheist or not. Truth is truth and the truth can get kicked around, run over, ignored or denied but, from before time until there is time no more but, truth will remain truth.

I believe that you will find this topic to be much more useful, educational, and edifying than any further discussion of Ms Fluke, especially now that we know she was a setup and dupe.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Dean

  31. What happened to all the socialistic goofballs that piped in with all of your one time “hit-n-run” opinions regarding the “nanny state” expose and demonstrations of support for Ms Fluke?

Have you no stamina? Or, were all of those “one-liners” the total depth of your intelligence? Come on now it was just getting good. I can only presume that once you found out she was a dupe for the president that you lost your fire. That’s no reason to stop the dialog. Were you just passing thru to throw a few smoke bombs? Or, did you recognize that you got smoked?

Speak up. Out of thoughts? What…………?

    Tom Dean

  32. No Greg, it actually does not happen often. I don’t usually participate in blogs; I just sort of stumbled into this one. I was simply trying to find out what Ms Fluke had said that was causing all of the “buzz.”

I do admit, however, that after hearing what she said, it got me a little wound up; but, it was only after I heard what she said, in the video, that I scrolled down to see what other videos might offer that I found out that this was a blog. I also have to admit that seeing some of the postings that followed; I did get a little fired up, if you will. It just hit me wrong in a “one-two” punch, which added up to a less than reasoned, I suppose, response. Furthermore, it was only after your reply to me this afternoon that I discovered exactly what I had stumbled into.

My first reaction was that I had fallen into a pit of “nanny state liberals” but, now I see that I had stumbled into a situation that I never expected. However, after this afternoon’s revelation, as to the nature, perspective, and reality of the situation, I explored a bit more and now better understand the reason as to how and why there was such a disconnect between what I said and how I said it and what, why, and how others heard what they heard or what they thought I was saying.

I, like you, do ponder in somewhat a state of “cognizant dissonance,” at least in my case, the impact and consequence of how one hears or perceives regarding nuance versus content. Looking back and considering what I have written here and what was heard, I must say that I believe that I have unwittingly demonstrated the advantage of impact that nuance holds over content.

I never intended to offend. I do, (one does) bear some responsibility as to what or how another hears.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Dean
