A large number of traffic accidents are being reported from eastern states as numerious NPR stations reported during the East Coast rush hour, that Santorum “hoped for a come from behind victory tonight!” Spit removal crews have been mobilized. It is quite a mess.

But alas, the climax of this particular primary battle will be delayed because there are widespread balloting problems in Illinois, where an important primary is being put to bed as we speak. According to the Washington Post, “About a quarter of the state’s counties were experiencing problems with their printed ballots, a Board of Elections official said, explaining they were too wide to fit…” in the scanning machines.

Romney’s lead over Santorum has been sizable in several recent polls, but there has been some last minute softening in his lead, according to polls at Real Clear Politics. Nonetheless, the size of the lead will matter in today’s primary, and it is unlikely that Santorum will achieve his goal.

  1. If the nominal frontrunner triumphs again, will NPR tell us

    Romney Squeezes Out Santorum

    ?

  2. The ballots are too wide to fit the ballot box? My old shop teacher would be pulling out his remaining hair with one hand and opening the mailbox bottle with the other. I can still hear him roar “measure and then cut you horrible little boys!”

On the good side, such n arrangement might cut down on voter fraud if no ballots get cast.

  3. I’ll say I’m glad I have a paper ballot and not an electronic one. True it got scanned (I was #22 in my polling place) but at least there’s a physical record of my vote.

  4. I am hoping for a close race between Romney, Santorum and Gingrich in Illinois, that way the headline can read “Romney, Gingrich squeeze out Santorum in three way”.

  5. If he’s still viable when the Texas primary rolls around, I may have to vote for him. Give the wing-nuts the candidate they deserve.
