Religious Message Delivered to Iowa Public School Students

In the form of song.

High school students in Dunkerton, Iowa were expecting an assembly about bullying and making good choices. What they got instead was the Christian rap/hard rock band called Junkyard Prophet delivering an anti-gay and anti-abortion rant.

After the band played, they broke the students up into gender-based groups and then lectured them.

“They told my daughter, the girls, that they were going to have mud on their wedding dresses if they weren’t virgins,” said Jennifer Littlefield, whose 16-year-old daughter, Alivia called her in tears after the event. Reportedly, one of the band members led the girls in a chant pledging purity and encouraged them to be submissive to their husbands after marriage.

Here’s part of the presentation:

And another:

Let me tell you two things about this: 1) It is an outrage; and 2) This kind of thing happens in high schools across the country on a regular basis; it is not that frequent, but it happens.

  1. That is an outrage!! And I am a Christian!

How did people get away with this? Calling homosexuality deviant? Claiming that gay men die at 42? Elton John accepts any sexual act except bestiality with goats? Who invited these people and did they not go over their material first?

Makes me glad I home schooled my children, so I could teach them to be responsible for themselves, make wise choices and accept and love other people right where they are. My son (who is a high school senior) would be outraged by this presentation. This is just so wrong.

  2. The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) was all over this violation of the separation of Church and State as soon as it happened.

I understand that one of the Admins that allowed this violation to occur – resigned today !!!!

  3. This is Bradlee Dean, known for such statements as these:

DEAN: Muslims are calling for the executions of homosexuals in America. This just shows you they themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible of the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than even the American Christians do, because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination.

    and

MCMILLIAN: They are very conservative. They sentence people for crimes against nature.

DEAN: They are very moral; they uphold the laws.

MCMILLIAN: We have got countries all over the world that are standing for what’s right and what’s wrong. In Rwanda, there’s legislation right now that repeat offenders of homosexuality will spend their life in prison.

    DEAN: Yes!

  4. Did Ihera right that this precaher rantingand raving about abortion and teh gheyZ claime dto be providing both sides of tehstory and arguing that themedia did not do so? Really!

  5. ^ Durnit. I should preview more carefully. Or learn to type better or both. Sorry. Make that :

Did I hear right that this preacher ranting and raving about abortion and teh gheyZ claimed to be providing *both* sides of the story and arguing that the media did not do so? Really!?

  6. Am I the only one who was facepalming when he mentioned all the forms of Infanticide that happened over the past couple of years. I just kept thinking “I wonder if he’ll mention how god ordered babies heads to be smashed against rocks, or maybe he’ll mention the babies that died during Noah’s flood or when god destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, that’s infanticide right there!”
