“…. The car stopped on a dime. Unfortunately, the dime was in Mr. Rococco’s Pocket….” and other great moments.

If you don’t know Firesign Theater, then a) your soul is empty and b) you won’t know who Peter Bergman is/was.

Here’s a post by a friend of his.

And now, go get and ingest some hallucinatory substances and listen, in no particular order, to the following: How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You’re and This Side and Don’t Crush That Dwarf Hand Me the Pliers and Everything You Know Is Wrong and Waiting for the Electrician Or Someone Like Him and Firesign Theatre’s Box of Danger and misplaced oxford comma I Think We’re All Bozos On This Bus.

That is all. If you were a faster reader, you’d be done with this blog post by now.

  1. Damn. Such a loss.

I saw Firesign Theater perform “I Think We’re All Bozos on This Bus” in San Rafael in October of 2010, and all the guys were sharp and vibrant and still funny as hell… adding updated references and material to keep it fresh, while still being essentially the same routine that the audience was able to quote word-by-word through the most classic passages.

  2. Firesign Theatre co-webmaster here; there’s a memorial book where Fireheads can leave memories of Peter and other 3 or 4 crazy guys, or you can just look up Firesign Theatre on Facebook.

    .

There’s also a lot of material on the website (audio and video clips) plus loads more on CD.

    .

See you on the Funway, it’s just a little less fun lately…

  3. Oh, how sad. Firesign Theater provided a significant percentage of what I and my friends said to each other for many years. Then my kids got hold of it and the quoting began again. I remember my son saying, (about I Think We’re All Bozos On This Bus) “WHEN was this recorded? It’s like 20 years ahead of its time, computer-wise” I can still do the first 3 or four minutes of Nick Danger, Third Eye:

Out of the fog, into the smog, relentlessly, ruthlessly (I wonder where Ruth is?), doggedly (dog barking), towards his weekly meeting with…

    the unknown.

And so on for quite a while.

I prefer to think that Bergman is on his way to the Antelope Freeway exit.
    Antelope Freeway, 1/2 mile
    Antelope Freeway, 1/4 mile
    Antelope Freeway, 1/8 mile
    Antelope Freeway, 1/16 mile
    Antelope Freeway, 1/32 mile…

  4. This makes me so sad. And just after I bought the new refrigerator–2 shelves where none are needed! Close the door and the light STAYS ON! Even now, 40 years after college, certain words or phrases will set me off and a Firesign bit comes out of my mouth. Everyone younger around me thinks I’m peculiar…I keep remembering that “the President of the United States is named Schickelgruber”. Damn.

  5. I love your photography. You have captured so many beautiful details, emotions and expressions.. I specially enjoyed the photos of the people getting ready for the wedding. I have planned? to do such an “intro” next time when I tale wedding photos as well.. Wonderful!
