Obama calls for rational, fact based debate on important issues

Donald Trump, Orly Tate, others are “side show carnival barkers” and questions by birthers, others “silliness” according to Obama, in a press conference moments ago.

Following a down-and-dirty live statement to the press asking everyone to just shut. up. and get down to business on the important issues facing the nation, the press vowed to provide intensive, irrelevant and annoying coverage of the birth certificate issue all day and for the rest of the week. Presumably the story will be interleaved with coverage of some wedding going on in England.

Here’s a statement from the White House:

President Obama’s Long Form Birth Certificate
Posted by Dan Pfeiffer on April 27, 2011 at 08:57 AM EDT

In 2008, in response to media inquiries, the President’s campaign requested his birth certificate from the state of Hawaii. The state sent the campaign the President’s birth certificate, the same legal documentation provided to all Hawaiians as proof of birth in state, and the campaign immediately posted it on the internet. That birth certificate can be seen here (PDF).

When any citizen born in Hawaii requests their birth certificate, they receive exactly what the President received. In fact, the document posted on the campaign website is what Hawaiians use to get a driver’s license from the state and the document recognized by the Federal Government and the courts for all legal purposes. That’s because it is the birth certificate. This is not and should not be an open question.

The President believed the distraction over his birth certificate wasn’t good for the country. It may have been good politics and good TV, but it was bad for the American people and distracting from the many challenges we face as a country. Therefore, the President directed his counsel to review the legal authority for seeking access to the long form certificate and to request on that basis that the Hawaii State Department of Health make an exception to release a copy of his long form birth certificate. They granted that exception in part because of the tremendous volume of requests they had been getting. President Barack Obama’s long form birth certificate can be seen here (PDF):

Correspondence with the Hawaii State Department of Health can be seen here (PDF).

At a time of great consequence for this country – when we should be debating how we win the future, reduce our deficit, deal with high gas prices, and bring stability to the Middle East, Washington, DC, was once again distracted by a fake issue. The President’s hope is that with this step, we can move on to debating the bigger issues that matter to the American people and the future of the country.

  1. Trump’s shtick is to be loud and obnoxious. He is a modern P. T. Barnum. Anything that keeps people talking about him is a success. Obama doing this will only add fuel to the fire and it will be an even more inane issue after this one. Oh wait, aren’t they now questioning his grades?

  2. It won’t stop them. The righties are impervious to evidence. Watch them invent something else to say it’s not real. These are the same people who say 99 of 100 scientists are wrong while their one crackpot is right. Even with no facts.

  3. But we’re still waiting for the really important document–that report card from the third grade. What’s he hiding? Did he change a D to a B? We have a right to know.

  4. @2 – Please don’t slander P. T. Barnum. [By the way, did you know Barnum was on a US half dollar – yes, a real, legal tender 1936 50c piece!]

  5. Obviously, the State of Hawaii is in on the conspiracy. I can put two and two together. He is the first “native son” president, and they can’t afford to lose that stature.

You call yourself a scientist, Greg? You must be one of the 99% who are wrong.

  6. Come to think of it, there might be some good from all this. Much like the boy who called wolf, perhaps the media will finally figure out they’re being played for suckers. Somehow, I doubt it though.

  7. What is hidden under Donald Trump’s hair?

A reliable source tells me that Donald Trump is an undercover agent sent by Xenu, who is secretly sucking the intelligence from earthlings by applying a galactic vacuum around their skulls. He is careful to avoid killing his victims, and leaves them with just enough mental capacity to attend Tea Party rallies or work as commentators for Fox News.

I am, of course, bringing this to the public’s attention as a service. America is struggling with economic, environmental and social difficulties that are being ignored while we’re being sidetracked over the issue of Trump’s origin and intentions. It’s time for him to come clean and prove that he is not a Xenu operative. A certificate of live birth is not sufficient as it can be forged. He will also need to provide a DNA sample, and lift up his hair (or remove it, if applicable) on live TV, to prove to Americans once and for all that he doesn’t have thetan R6 implants in his forehead.
