  1. “Assholes.”

    the BBC?

i’d say the assholes are the Tory government who are slashing the BBC’s budget so there is a more level playing field for commercial stations – such as the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sky TV (Murdoch just happens to be a major contributor to the Tory Party).

  2. Yes, the BBC. That is not to say that I don’t love the BBC for a number of reasons, but this was just an asshole move. It would make far more sense to have cut out more deadwood that they didn’t actively try to bring into their fold in the first place.

  3. while i applaud the BBC for providing a home for things like H2G2 in the past, and i don’t agree with closing it, it’s understandable that the BBC is going to focus its reduced online workforce on elements of the site it has more of a direct connection with.

and it’s not as if they’re just dropping the axe on it – from the post in the link it seems that they are actively trying to find a way to help H2G2 continue elsewhere.
