Here’s a picture:

Well, ok, actually, they didn’t exactly say this in their press release, but they didn’t not say it, neither, so shame on them!!! They put this picture that they KNOW imma think is mitosis and FAILED to say it wassn! FAIL I say!

But seriously, folks, the real news and as far as I know this is total, NASA-loving news-pimping hype of the kind all us science lovers love, is this: “By the middle of next week, NASA’s Mars Odyssey orbiter will have worked longer at Mars than any other spacecraft in history.”1

The rest of the press release is here. Even if you don’t want to read it, go check out the pictures (click on the top picture and it will change to a different one). The cream of the crop, including a Martian Happyface wearing a dunce cap. No, really!

1How dare they say something that promotes themselves! Who do they think they are!?!?!?!?

  1. than any other spacecraft in history.

Although I’d venture that competition was pretty weak for the first 99% of history.

  2. Wait…aren’t the Voyager spacecraft still working? Or are they just counting actual time receiving commands or sending information?

And yeah…I agree with Christopher…that’s obviously a bottom-up view of a scrotum and penis.

  3. Shawn:

That was confusing to me at first, but I believe they are talking only about the time spent by spacecraft on/around Mars.

  4. @#3: Yes, the voyagers are still operational and in contact. I think the key words in the release are “worked longer at mars”

  5. And yeah…I agree with Christopher…that’s obviously a bottom-up view of a scrotum and penis.

I disagree, it looks like an imprint from a scrotum and penis, so Mars was teabagged? Is that the right term?

PS: I do not know these things from personal experience.

  6. how is it that mitosis can be happening when mars is not a living oragnism. that picture of mars that looks like the phaSE telaphase(which is in the cycle of mitosis.)
