Biblical Obama Bashing

Biblical anti-Obama slogan: Use of Psalm 109:8 funny or sinister?

There’s a new slogan making its way onto car bumpers and across the Internet. It reads simply: “Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8”

A nice sentiment?

Maybe not.

The psalm reads, “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.”

Presidential criticism through witty slogans is nothing new. Bumper stickers, t-shirts, and hats with “1/20/09” commemorated President Bush’s last day in office.

But the verse immediately following the psalm referenced is a bit more ominous: “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

  1. Leave it to the wingnuts to hide behind cute sayings that have ominous meaning. They complained when progressives used cute sayings against srub and darth chaney!

  2. Have you had this forwarded to you (or seen it)?

“Dear God, last year you took my favorite actor, Patrick Swayze, and my favorite actress, Farrah Fawcett. I want you to know my favorite president is President Obama.”

A couple of my students sent it to me, and one niece (niece by marriage, thankfully) has it on her facebook page.

  3. This Psalm thing is not new. It was making the rounds at least since just after Obama won the election or was inaugurated. Maybe the wingnuts are running out of fresh material. Or maybe they believe in recycling.

  4. “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

But obviously the people saying that aren’t “True” Republicans or “True” Tea Partiers. Because no “True” Conservative would ever advocate violence or murder.
