Ebert: “Limbaugh, you should be horse-whipped”

Now, I know all the ditto heads are going to show up and start arguing whether or not “horse-whipped” is spelled with a dash, but that is just a distraction. Check this out:

You should be horse-whipped for the insult you have paid to the highest office of our nation.

Having followed President Obama’s suggestion and donated money to the Red Cross for relief in Haiti, I was offended to hear you suggest the President might be a thief capable of stealing money intended for the earthquake victims.

For the record, Ebert provides a transcript of Limberger’s asinine remarks:

Justin of Raleigh, North Carolina
: “Why does Obama say if you want to donate some money, you could go to whitehouse.gov to direct you how to do so? If I wanted to donate to the Red Cross, why do I have to go to the White House page to donate?”

Limbaugh: “Exactly. Would you trust the money’s gonna go to Haiti?”

Justin: “No.”

Rush: “But would you trust that your name’s gonna end up on a mailing list for the Obama people to start asking you for campaign donations for him and other causes?”

Justin: “Absolutely!”

Limbaugh: “Absolutely!”

Raleigh North Carolina. … Sounds like a place with a lot of yahoos. Not a place I’d like to visit, that’s for sure!!!!!

  1. “…the insult you have paid to the highest office of our nation.”

This was stupid rhetoric under Bush, and it’s stupid rhetoric now.

  2. Greg, unfortunately someone with a bad heart like broadcaster Limbaugh cannot be horsewhipped, either constutionally or under common law. We should settle for stripping him of his assets and sending him to exile without a passport.

  3. I wonder if it would be handy if somebody burned a page of a buy-bull and let him know every time Mental Mabs posted his drivel.

  4. Both Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate and the OED show horsewhip as a transitive verb, one word. So neither hyphen or dash is needed.

  5. Raleigh North Carolina. … Sounds like a place with a lot of yahoos. Not a place I’d like to visit, that’s for sure!!!!!

Justin probably only said he was from Raleigh because he thought nobody would know where Research Triangle Park is–now that’s a place where bubbleheaded yahoos tend to flock to!

  6. Hey, maybe that will get the attention of brain-challenged like Limbaugh.

We can organize hundred of bible burnings all across the US. Call them Limbaugh-in-effigy.

  7. I noticed that Pat “True Story” Robertson invited listeners to contribute…to him (his organization would distribute the contributions). I’m curious how much his take of the contributions is.

  8. “Raleigh North Carolina. … Sounds like a place with a lot of yahoos”

One person says some stupid shit, and you’re ready to write off the entire city? Seriously?

  9. Mark @ 16 – I’m betting all of the money donated through whatever whitehouse.gov page goes to the appropriate cause and the bare minimum required by law donated through Pat Robertson’s organization goes to the appropriate cause.

  10. Translated from Republican:

Limbaugh: “Are you sure the government won’t take your money and then sell your information to anyone with the cash? I bet they will, cause that’s what I would do.”

  11. Aside from the Pat Robertsons saying “give me money, I’ll look after those folks”, I’ve noticed in the past 30 years the “Concert for ____ victims” has also become very popular. The usual format is invite performers to do a gig for next to nothing, rake in the money, and claim to have given money to some group – exactly as Pat Robertson does. So if someone organizes a concert near you, how do you establish where the money really goes?

  12. Meanwhile, no one noticed that Dubya is working w/ Slick Willy Clinton as the point-men for U.S. relief efforts in Haiti.

    Poor, poor Dub.

  13. Meanwhile, no one noticed that Dubya is working w/ Slick Willy Clinton as the point-men for U.S. relief efforts in Haiti.
    Poor, poor Dub.

I’d call it a wash wit those two – but, if they can give the relief effort an oomph, what’s the problem?

  14. If I wanted to donate to the Red Cross, why do I have to go to the White House page to donate?”

“have to”? yeah, I don’t think anyone is being forced to donate to the red cross via the white house site. what a stupid question. what a stupid, assumption, too. All that link does is prevent idiotic comments a la “why does the president not care?!” if there weren’t a link to some relief organization.

Absolutely nothing seems to be able to prevent stupid comments by Limbaugh & Co. in general, though.

  15. OK Greg, there are lots of yahoos in NC, but probably no more than your fair state has.
Please don’t discount the whole city because of one comment.
    @ #12, I assume that’s a bit of sarcasm.
RTP (very close to Raleigh) is full of highly educated people–during the day. Many of them actually do live in Raleigh.
Of course, highly educated doesn’t equate to open minded, but it’s a start.
Anyway, check us out–what was your temp up there today, it was 60+ today.

I’ve actually been to RTP and I completely agree with everything you say. It was cold here in Philly today, but not as bone chilling as it has been for the last two weeks. I’m assuming, of course, that that question was directed at me and not Greg Laden who is currently at the ScienceOnline2010 conference in RTP (and I’ll go out on a limb and guess that he flew into Raleigh). 😉

  17. @Science Pundit–the question really was directed at Greg as he’s from Minnesota!
I had no idea the conference was here, cool.

He would have flown into the Raleigh-Durham Airport, which is right next to RTP. The Research Triangle Park (RTP) is named for the geometrical triangle made by Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. RTP is right in the middle of it.
RTP (and the universities here) have made the area what it is now–a thriving area of the country, even while the recession raged(s).
I came down here with one of the big IBM waves when my dad was transferred from MD. Back then, in the 70s, there were two types of kids at my school–NC natives and IBMers.

Anyone remember the movie Brainstorm? They used the Borroughs-Wellcome (now Glaxo) building in RTP. Some cool archicture in the area.

  18. Lynn, sometimes Greg’s comments should be taken seriously, other times they should not. Multiple exclamation points are the giveaway.

By the by, I live in the triangle area, and there isn’t anywhere else in NC I’d want to live… except Asheville, maybe. Lots of interesting places and things to do.

  19. “Raleigh North Carolina. … Sounds like a place with a lot of yahoos. Not a place I’d like to visit, that’s for sure!!!!!”

You joke because you are there, but don’t say that based on one dumbass.

Raleigh is actually very nice. And FYI: a lot of very smart people are there. Red Hat Software is based in Raleigh, for example.

  20. Iâ??ve come to the conclusion that Rush Limbaugh doesnâ??t actually believe half the things he says, and whether he does or not, for his purposes, is totally beside the point. He has not come to be in the position he now enjoys by making reasonable statements. While I agree with everything Mr. Ebert has said, and while I have no doubt he had the best of intentions, the fact is that the more people react, and the higher the profile of those that do react, the more it benefits Rush Limbaugh and all the more lucrative his contract will be when it comes up for renewal. Sometimes itâ??s best to just ignore him and hope his heart ailment worsens.

Given the scumbags our species has a knack for producing from time to time, it should come as no surprise to anyone that someone as vile as Rush Limbaugh should come along. What I find both troubling and perplexing is why we as a society choose to elevate these wretches to billionaire status. His listeners arenâ??t some lunatic fringe â?? theyâ??re absolutely mainstream. Thatâ??s what keeps me awake nights.
